TRENTON, NJ — Mercer County Commissioners Lucylle R.S. Walter and John A. Cimino announced today that they have proudly received the official endorsement of the Mercer County Central Labor Council (AFL-CIO) for their re-election campaign in the upcoming June 2nd Democratic primary.

The endorsement highlights the Commissioners’ longstanding commitment to working families, prevailing wages, and organized labor across Mercer County. Representing tens of thousands of union members from various trades, public sectors, and professions throughout the region, the Mercer County Central Labor Council is one of the county’s most prominent and influential advocacy organizations.

“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the Mercer County Central Labor Council,” said Commissioner Lucylle R.S. Walter. “Organized labor is the backbone of our community. Throughout my time on the Board of Commissioners, I have fought to ensure that our county projects create good-paying, union jobs and that our hardworking families always have a voice at the table. This endorsement validates our shared commitment to keeping Mercer County a place where working people can thrive.”

Commissioner John A. Cimino echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the critical role union workers play in the county’s success:

“The men and women of the Mercer County Central Labor Council are the builders, educators, public servants, and essential workers who keep our county moving forward every single day. Having their support in this primary is both humbling and energizing. We will continue to champion Project Labor Agreements, protect workers’ rights, and focus on economic development strategies that prioritize strong wages and safe working conditions.”

During their respective tenures, both Walter and Cimino have been steadfast advocates for the working class. Their track record on the Board of County Commissioners includes:

  • Protecting Fair Wages: Consistently supporting initiatives that mandate prevailing wages on county-funded projects.
  • Prioritizing Local Labor: Utilizing Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) to ensure infrastructure upgrades are completed safely and efficiently by highly trained local union workers.
  • Expanding Workforce Development: Strengthening partnerships and vocational training opportunities through Mercer County Community College and Mercer County Special Services School District.

In their endorsement announcement, the Mercer County Central Labor Council stated: “Commissioners Walter and Cimino have proven time and again that they stand with the working men and women of Mercer County. We need experienced leaders who understand the importance of collective bargaining, workplace safety, and equitable economic growth.
